Bulgaria’s gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz will organize a new procedure to select the contractor that will build the gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Romania, after the contractor that had been previously selected withdrew from the contract, said the Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzka Petkova.

The contractor decided to withdraw from the contract, due to changes in its relationship with its own subcontractors, Temenuzka Petkova added, cited by local Economica.net.

The Giurgiu-Ruse pipeline will have a total length of about 25 km, 15.4 km of which are in Bulgaria. Some 5.2 kilometers are and a 4-km stretch represents the underground crossing of the Danube River. The pipeline will have a maximum transport capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Bulgaria , and a capacity of 500 million cubic meters per year from Romania to Bulgaria.
